Winter weather can leave your skin feeling dry, flaky and even itchy. The humidity that often accompanies warmer temperatures plays a big role in keeping our skin hydrated and moisturized, but when humidity drops with the temperatures, our skin can quickly become dry and uncomfortable. Here are some of Skintastic‘s winter skin care tips.
You don’t have to wait for warm temperatures and higher humidity to return for your skin to regain its luster and moisture. Hydration, oil supplements and moisturizers will add moisture to your skin, doing away with dull, dry skin.
Are you suffering from dry skin? Use these tips to help your skin retain its moisture this winter:
- Drink plenty of water. Proper hydration is essential for a healthy body, including your skin. The more water you drink, the more your skin is able to retain moisture. Staying properly hydrated is the first step to avoiding dry skin.
- Use a humidifier. When your home’s heater runs, it further dries the air inside your house. Replenish the moisture in the air within your home with a humidifier. If you don’t have a humidifier, keep a pot of boiling salt water on your stove to create moisture in your home.
- Take oil supplements. Omega 3 fatty acids and other essential fatty acids help combat dry skin and promote healing. Take daily oil supplements to help prevent moisture loss in your skin. Doing so can also help prevent lines and wrinkles in your skin.
- Use daily moisturizer. Select a daily moisturizer based on your natural skin type. If your skin tends to be dry, use a cream-based moisturizer. If you tend to have oily skin, select a lotion-based moisturizer. Honey or cocoa butter-based moisturizers are also good for keeping skin moisturized in winter weather.
- Protect your skin from the sun. The sun can be very damaging to your skin, and can cause your skin to lose its moisture. Even in the winter months, it’s important to apply sunscreen to protect your skin.
Whether you enjoy the cold temperatures or not, nobody enjoys dry skin. Keeping your skin hydrated and moist this winter will help your skin retain both its beauty and health.
